With Empathy and Excellence: MLQU BS Psychology Program Holds Historic 1st Recognition and Pinning Ceremony

QUEZON CITY, Philippines
— Marking a significant landmark in its commitment to academic distinction and holistic student development, the Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) Bachelor of Science in Psychology program successfully hosted its 1st Recognition and Pinning Ceremony at the Victoria Sports Tower Ballroom last 15 September 2026.
Guided by the theme “Tanglaw: With Empathy and Excellence, We Rise in Service of Humanity,” the momentous event celebrated the academic perseverance, growth, and readiness of MLQU’s pioneering batch of BS Psychology students as they transition toward professional practice.

A Transition into Professional Responsibility

More than a symbolic tradition, the pinning ceremony represents a formal rite of passage into the field of mental health and human behavior. The pin serves as an enduring reminder of the ethical standards, integrity, and dedication expected of future psychology practitioners.
The program opened with remarks from Dean Sergio M. Andal Jr., setting an inspiring tone for the afternoon. A centerpiece of the event was the keynote address delivered by Prof. Jobelle C. Resuello, who shared valuable insights on maintaining compassion and professional rigor in service of others.

Words of Wisdom from Public Servants and Advocates

The solemnity and impact of the celebration were further elevated by inspiring messages from prominent advocates and leaders in public service:
  • Rep. Chel Diokno commended the students for choosing a discipline rooted in service, reminding them of the fundamental connection between human rights, mental well-being, and community support.
  • Sen. Risa Hontiveros extended her warm congratulations, emphasizing the critical role of accessible mental health advocacy and praising the students’ resolve to serve humanity with empathy.

Honoring Excellence and Committing to Service

The ceremony highlighted key academic milestones, including the Recognition of Awardees and the formal Pinning of Fourth-Year Psychology Students, both facilitated by Program Coordinator Mr. Ken Drexel Q. Cadano.
Following the pinning, the students solemnly took their Psychology Students’ Oath, affirming their pledge to uphold the values of the university and the ethical tenets of the psychological profession.
Student representative Mr. Nash Lorkan L. Basilan delivered a heartfelt response, expressing gratitude to the faculty, families, and peers who supported the pioneer class throughout their academic journey.
Closing the event, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Glendora V. Tiu re-anchored the university’s mission, encouraging the newly pinned cohort to embody MLQU’s core identity of leadership and service to the nation.

Forwarding the Legacy

Manuel L. Quezon University congratulates the pioneer batch of BS Psychology students on reaching this crucial milestone. As they move forward into clinical internships, community immersions, and future licensure examinations, MLQU remains steadfast in supporting their transformation into compassionate nation-builders.
