Student Organizations and Local Councils General Assembly: Building a Stronger Community of Student Leaders

On October 11, the Student Organizations and Local Councils General Assembly convened, organized by the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) at Manuel L. Quezon University. This important gathering brought together representatives from recognized student organizations and local councils, establishing a forum to discuss vital updates, share best practices, and plan initiatives for the academic year. Designed to align student organizations with the university’s strategic objectives, the assembly focused on building collaborative relationships and enhancing leadership among students.

Purpose and Highlights of the Assembly

By setting a deadline for the submission of application forms, OSAS ensured that all active organizations could participate, streamlining the coordination process. This assembly aimed to:

  • Present Policy Updates: Attendees were briefed on current policies and guidelines affecting student organizations.
  • Plan and Coordinate Events: Leaders discussed upcoming events, projects, and initiatives that would shape the student experience throughout the year.
  • Engage in Development Workshops: Leadership and collaboration workshops equipped student leaders with project management skills and strategies for effective teamwork.
  • Address Challenges: The assembly provided a platform to address organizational concerns, promoting open communication and problem-solving.
  • Foster Networking: Leaders connected with one another, fostering a supportive network of peers across campus.
  • Elect an Executive Board: The assembly concluded with elections for an Executive Board for Student Organizations, charged with representing the interests of all student-led groups.

Recognized Student Organizations for 2024

This year, OSAS recognized 14 student organizations, approved by the Office of the President, including 8 continuing organizations, 3 Local Student Councils, and 3 newly established groups. Notably, one new organization was created by the Senior High School Department, marking a first for SHS students and expanding opportunities for engagement and leadership at every level.

Building a Unified Student Community

The assembly underscored the university’s commitment to nurturing a unified student community where collaboration and leadership flourish. Student leaders left with renewed purpose and a clear vision for a year filled with impactful projects, effective leadership, and a strong sense of community support. The General Assembly serves as a foundation for a productive and inspiring academic year, aligning student initiatives with MLQU’s mission to foster proactive, dedicated, and collaborative student leaders.
