Manuel L. Quezon University proudly celebrates the achievement of Maria Pilar M. Bigornia, a third-year Juris Doctor student of the Manuel L. Quezon University School of Law, who has been accepted as an intern at the prestigious Office of the Solicitor General — the law office known as the “Tribune of the People” and principal legal defender of the Government of the Philippines.
Her acceptance into one of the country’s most respected legal institutions is a testament not only to her individual competence and perseverance, but also to the strength and quality of MLQU’s legal education model — one designed specifically to empower the Filipino working student.
Maria Pilar exemplifies the very spirit of the MLQU School of Law: driven, disciplined, and deeply committed to personal and professional advancement despite the demands of full-time employment.
A seasoned government professional with over 20 years of experience in administrative and support services, Maria Pilar currently serves as Corporate Staff Officer C at the National Transmission Corporation, where she provides executive assistance to senior leadership, heads the Secretariat of TransCo’s Gender and Development Focal Point System, and acts as Special Disbursing Officer.
Balancing a demanding career in government service with the rigors of legal education is no small feat — yet Maria Pilar continues to excel, proving that professional responsibilities need not be a barrier to academic and career advancement.
Beyond her professional and academic commitments, she also serves as 3rd Year Level Representative of the Law Student Government, reflecting her dedication to leadership, service, and the broader MLQU community.
Her internship at the Office of the Solicitor General will provide invaluable exposure to government litigation and public legal practice, further honing her legal competencies as she continues her journey toward becoming a member of the Philippine Bar.
More importantly, her achievement underscores a defining truth about MLQU: our working students do not merely survive; they thrive.
At MLQU, we recognize that many of our law students are professionals, parents, public servants, and breadwinners pursuing legal education while managing the realities of adult life. Their success stories are at the heart of who we are as an institution.
Maria Pilar’s accomplishment stands as a proud reflection of MLQU’s enduring commitment to being a premier law school for working professionals — one that offers not only academic rigor, but also mentorship, flexibility, and a learning environment responsive to the needs of the modern Filipino learner.
Her story is an inspiration to every aspiring lawyer who believes that career, family, and ambition can coexist with the pursuit of legal education.
At MLQU, working students are not the exception — they are our pride.
The entire MLQU community congratulates Maria Pilar M. Bigornia on this remarkable milestone and wishes her continued success in her legal journey.
