Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through a seminar organized by the MLQU Environmental Management Committee. The event was designed for Senior High School students and the officers of various student organizations at the undergraduate level. This initiative reflects the university’s dedication to fostering environmental consciousness and responsible waste management practices within the campus community.
The seminar was conducted in collaboration with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), focusing on the provisions and guidelines of Republic Act No. 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. A key highlight of the session was the mandatory segregation at source of solid waste, emphasizing the importance of properly sorting waste materials to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable waste disposal practices.
Since the establishment of the MLQU Environmental Management Committee, the university has actively implemented awareness campaigns advocating for proper waste segregation. Additionally, training programs have been initiated among personnel and students to ensure that best practices in waste management are consistently observed across the campus.
This seminar marks another significant step in MLQU’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its institutional practices. By empowering students with knowledge and practical strategies for ecological waste management, MLQU aims to inspire proactive participation in broader environmental initiatives. The university recognizes its vital role in advocating for sustainable development and remains steadfast in contributing to environmental preservation for future generations.
MLQU continues to seek opportunities to collaborate with government agencies and other stakeholders in advancing its environmental programs, solidifying its role as an institution committed to fostering environmental responsibility within and beyond its academic community.
