In a recent ceremony, the newly elected officers of the student organizations and the Student Council of the School of Business (SOB) at Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) took their oath of office before the institution’s Executive Vice President, Lucille P. Ortile. The ceremony marked a significant moment in the continued revitalization of the School of Business, which has been identified as a flagship school of the university.
The student organizations under the School of Business represent each of its degree programs, fostering collaboration, leadership, and student engagement. These include the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) for Accountancy students, the Business Administration Student Society (BASS) for Business Administration students, and the Legal Management Society (LMS) for students of Legal Management. Overseeing these individual organizations is the SOB Student Council, which acts as the umbrella body representing the entire School of Business.
During the oath-taking ceremony, EVP Ortile expressed her admiration for the dedication and enthusiasm of the student leaders. “Your eagerness to take an active role in organizing activities and participating in decision-making processes reflects the spirit of leadership we value here at MLQU,” she said. “This commitment aligns with the university’s thrust to revitalize the School of Business, aiming for increased enrollment, the production of quality graduates, and the offering of industry-relevant programs.”
The officers of these student organizations will be ably guided by Dean Leonila Generales of the School of Business, who brings her extensive experience as an academic leader and expert in business administration, and Ms. Sofia Caccam, Head of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS). Their mentorship will provide crucial support to ensure that the students’ plans and activities align with the university’s objectives, and that their leadership potential is fully developed.
Already, the student leaders have begun aligning their plans with the overall objectives of the School of Business, particularly in the areas of extension services and research. These initiatives aim to extend learning beyond the classroom and equip students with hands-on experience, while fostering a culture of inquiry and innovation.
In her remarks, EVP Ortile encouraged the student leaders to take an active role not only within their respective organizations but also in the broader MLQU community. She emphasized the importance of their participation in the organization and election of the officers of the MLQU Student Body, highlighting that their leadership could serve as a model for the entire university.
The values embodied by the School of Business student organizations are key to their success. The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) instills a strong sense of integrity, discipline, and excellence among aspiring accountants. The Business Administration Student Society (BASS) emphasizes the importance of adaptability, innovation, and entrepreneurship—qualities essential in today’s fast-changing business environment. The Legal Management Society (LMS) promotes critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and a strong sense of justice among future leaders in the legal and corporate worlds.
By fostering a culture of collaboration, these organizations not only enrich the student experience but also contribute to the overall growth and success of the School of Business. Their activities and programs will play a vital role in shaping the future of MLQU’s business students, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet industry demands while upholding the values of leadership, service, and excellence.
As the new officers embark on their journey, guided by Dean Generales and Ms. Caccam, the entire MLQU community looks forward to the positive impact they will make, not just within the School of Business, but across the university. Their leadership, dedication, and passion will undoubtedly contribute to making MLQU a center of academic excellence and student empowerment.
