MLQU School of Architecture Brings Heritage Learning to Life Through Immersive Tour at Las Casas de Filipinas de Acuzar

As part of its commitment to delivering transformative, experiential, and industry-relevant education, the Manuel L. Quezon University School of Architecture recently conducted an immersive heritage tour for students enrolled in its Conservation Course at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan.

The educational tour, provided free of charge to students as part of the course curriculum, offered aspiring architects a rare opportunity to engage directly with some of the country’s most significant preserved and reconstructed heritage structures — bringing classroom concepts on architectural conservation, heritage preservation, and adaptive reuse into real-world context.  This course is taught by Dean John Joseph T. Fernandez who joined them in the trip.

Through guided exploration of historic Filipino houses and structures, students were able to deepen their appreciation of the nation’s architectural legacy while observing firsthand the principles, techniques, and challenges involved in conserving built heritage.

This initiative reflects MLQU’s philosophy that meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom. By integrating field immersion into academic instruction at no additional cost to students, the University ensures that future architects gain practical exposure essential to professional competence and heritage-sensitive design practice.

Under the leadership of the School of Architecture, MLQU continues to distinguish itself through innovative and student-centered learning experiences that prepare graduates not only for licensure and professional success, but also for stewardship of the nation’s cultural and built environment.

At MLQU, architecture students do not simply study design — they experience it, preserve it, and learn to shape its future.
