Love was in full bloom as the School of Business (SOB) of Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU), in collaboration with its Extension Services Office and the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA-MLQU), brought warmth and learning to 30 children in a heartwarming community outreach event themed “Feb-Ibig Celebration: Where Love is the Greatest Asset” on February 26, at Barangay Fairview.
Held at the Barangay Complex of Barangay Fairview, Quezon City, this internally funded initiative showcased MLQU’s commitment to community engagement through a creative and meaningful activity that blended social values with financial literacy.
Spreading Love through Learning
The outreach was spearheaded by Dean of the School of Business, the Extension Services Office Head, and the Program Coordinator, alongside 11 student volunteers and officers from JPIA-MLQU. Together, they facilitated engaging discussions centered on the different manifestations of love—love for family, friends, and community—grounded on the belief that “God loved us first.”
One of the event’s unique learning sessions introduced the concept of a “Love Balance Sheet”—a fun and reflective way to help the young beneficiaries understand the “assets” and “liabilities” of being loved. The children identified experiences and gestures that made them feel valued and happy (assets) and those that made them feel unloved or sad (liabilities). Volunteers then guided them in discussing how they could “manage” their love assets and liabilities to nurture meaningful relationships.
A Heartfelt Expression of Love
As part of the activity, each child received a special set of school supplies, including pencils, pens, crayons, and bond paper. More than just gifts, these materials became tools for the children to express gratitude. Each participant wrote a love letter to someone special—many choosing their parents—expressing appreciation and recognizing the love they receive.
One particularly touching moment came when a beneficiary shared, “I feel loved when MLQU comes to our place and gives us activities and gifts.” This heartfelt statement reaffirmed the university’s mission of making a difference in the community, not just through material aid but also through meaningful connections.
Assessing the Impact
To ensure the effectiveness of the event, evaluation forms were distributed to the children, parents, and barangay assistants. Their feedback will serve as valuable input for future outreach initiatives, ensuring that MLQU continues to tailor its programs to the needs of its adopted communities.
Commitment to Service
The Feb-Ibig Celebration exemplifies MLQU’s dedication to holistic education that extends beyond the classroom. By incorporating both values formation and financial literacy in an interactive setting, the School of Business and its volunteers successfully demonstrated that love is indeed the greatest asset.
With more outreach initiatives in the pipeline, MLQU remains steadfast in its mission to uplift and empower communities through education, service, and love.
