“Strengthening Institutional Readiness for the Digital and Innovation Era”
In line with its strategic direction toward technological advancement and academic innovation, Manuel L. Quezon University conducted a two-day seminar from February 26 to 27, 2026, on “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” for all academic and non-academic personnel. The hybrid program, delivered both onsite and online, reflects the University’s commitment to equipping its community with foundational competencies necessary to navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The seminar was facilitated by Atty. Rabelais F. Medina, an AI Engineer, Certified AI Governance Professional, and faculty member of the MLQU School of Law, whose multidisciplinary expertise bridges technology, governance, and professional practice. His sessions provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to artificial intelligence, from core concepts and practical applications to ethical considerations, governance frameworks, and emerging global trends shaping industries today.
Throughout the two-day learning engagement, participants were introduced to how AI technologies are transforming sectors such as education, business, public service, and research. Atty. Medina emphasized that understanding AI is no longer optional but essential for institutions that seek to remain relevant, competitive, and forward-looking. He underscored that a strong foundational grasp of AI enables professionals to make informed decisions, responsibly adopt new technologies, and maximize opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
The seminar forms part of MLQU’s broader institutional thrust to align its academic and operational systems with the demands of a technology-driven and business-responsive environment. By providing both teaching and non-teaching personnel with a common baseline understanding of artificial intelligence, the University aims to foster a culture of digital literacy, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation readiness across all schools, departments and offices.
University leadership views initiatives such as this as critical investments in human capital. Building awareness and competence in emerging technologies empowers faculty to enrich instruction, strengthens administrative systems through data-informed processes, and ensures that MLQU remains responsive to industry developments and global educational trends.
More than a training session, the program served as a platform for reflection on how artificial intelligence can be integrated responsibly into academic work, institutional management, research initiatives, and community engagement. Participants were encouraged to see AI not as a replacement for human expertise but as a powerful tool that enhances productivity, creativity, and informed decision-making.
As MLQU continues to pursue its vision of becoming a future-ready institution, the Introduction to AI seminar marks an important milestone in preparing its academic community to lead and innovate in an increasingly technology-driven world. Through sustained initiatives in digital capacity building, the University reinforces its commitment to excellence, adaptability, and lifelong learning, ensuring that every member of the MLQU community is equipped not only to keep pace with change but to shape it.
