MLQU Celebrates Its 77th Founding Anniversary: Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures, Celebrating Excellence in Education

Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) successfully celebrated its 77th Founding Anniversary from November 27 to 29, 2024. The three-day university-wide event, held under the theme “Empowering Minds. Shaping Futures. Celebrating Excellence in Education,” highlighted MLQU’s legacy of excellence in education and its unwavering commitment to shaping the future through quality and innovation.

Reflecting on 77 Years of Excellence

The celebration opened with a message from MLQU’s Executive Vice President, Lucille P. Ortile. She emphasized the university’s rich history and the vision of its namesake, President Manuel L. Quezon, whose leadership and ideals continue to inspire generations of Quezonians.

“For 77 years, MLQU stood as a pillar of quality education, shaping futures and empowering minds,” Ortile remarked. “As we celebrated this milestone, we not only looked forward to the future but also took a moment to honor the illustrious past that shaped MLQU into what it is today.”

Ortile reminded the MLQU community of the importance of staying true to the university’s vision and mission. She called on students, faculty, and staff to embrace these values wholeheartedly, ensuring that every graduate could proudly declare they were a true Quezonian—“Makyo” through and through.

During her speech, Ortile posed the question: “What does it take to be a Quezonian?”

Her answer resonated deeply with the audience: “A true Quezonian embodies integrity, resilience, and excellence. They embrace curiosity and innovation while remaining deeply rooted in service to others. They not only excel academically but also lead with purpose, inspire change, and uphold the ideals of MLQU in every endeavor.”

• Palarong Pinoy: Traditional Filipino games that brought nostalgia and strengthened bonds among participants.
• MLQU Amazing Race: A thrilling competition that challenged participants’ wit, teamwork, and determination.
• Christmas Tree Lighting: A symbolic event that ushered in the festive season, representing hope and unity.
• Acquaintance Party and Awards Night: A celebratory finale featuring the much-anticipated awarding of winners from the MLQU Film Competition, which captured the essence of what it means to be a Quezonian.
