Breaking the Silence, Building a Sanctuary: MLQU Observes Mental Health Awareness Month

“Being a Quezonian is not being alone. We are a Quezonian because we need each other.”

These powerful words from our Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Glendora Tiu, set the tone for a deeply meaningful gathering yesterday, October 1, 2026. As we welcome the observance of Mental Health Awareness Month this October, the Manuel L. Quezon University Center for Student Affairs and Well-being (MLQU CSAW) reminded our academic community that no Quezonian ever has to walk their journey alone.

In line with this commitment to creating a compassionate campus culture where reaching out is always met with understanding and unwavering support, MLQU held the “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako” seminar.

The session was led with utmost empathy and expertise by our School Psychologist, Ms. Ma. Teresita Y. Abad, RPSY, who guided students through vital conversations on emotional resilience, recognizing signs of distress, and the life-saving impact of simply being present for one another.

The afternoon was made even more impactful with the presence of our Executive Vice President, Ms. Lucille Ortile, who delivered inspiring closing remarks that deeply resonated with everyone in attendance, reminding us all of the sacred value of life and our shared responsibility to look out for one another.

  • A Safe Space for All: The seminar served as a gentle reminder that vulnerability is not a weakness, but a shared human experience.

  • Destigmatizing Mental Health: Through open dialogue, CSAW continues to dismantle barriers, ensuring that seeking psychological support is embraced as an act of courage and self-care.

  • The Quezonian Spirit: True to our core values, our community thrives when we actively listen, check in on our peers, and extend a hand when it matters most.

Mental health matters today, tomorrow, and every single day of the year. Let us keep the conversation going and make sure our campus remains a safe haven of hope and healing.

💬 Remember: Your feelings are valid, your story matters, and you are never alone. If you or someone you know needs a listening ear or professional guidance, the MLQU CSAW doors and our school psychologist’s office are always open for you. Reach out, because we need each other.
